Article: Geraniums
Created on: Monday, June 09, 2003
The traditional Memorial Day flower for memorial decorations and park plantings is the geranium. This use has diversified in recent years, as geraniums have been improved by plant breeders and new types and varieties have been introduced. Geraniums are, indeed, the number?one annual plant in most of the United States. Large, early blooming, double flowers are the feature of the traditional Memorial Day geranium. Some outstanding foliage variegations are an additional feature. Ivygeraniums are a separate group traditionally used for hanging containers and window boxes, which are compatible with their vining growth habit. Historically one of our oldest bedding plants, geraniums in many forms continue to brighten our summer landscapes. We grow over 5,000 geraniums each year at Pine Tree Nursery!
